Section 504

Section 504 is part of the Americans with Disabilities Act which was amended in 2008, with changes taking effect on January 1, 2009. Specifically, it states that, "No otherwise qualified handicapped individual in the United States...shall, solely by reason of his handicap, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

An individual with a disability is any person who has a (1) physical or mental impairment that (2)substantially limits a (3) major life activity.

The Bibb County School District complies with this law and provides accommodations for our students, as well as employees. Each school's principal has named a 504 coordinator who can answer questions in the building. These individuals should be contacted first. The District 504 Coordinator is Mrs. Brooke Widner. If any problems are noted at the building level, or you have further questions, she can be reached at 478-765-8631.
