RMS Skillastics.

Grant funds Skillastics programs at schools

Through funds from the grant the PE teachers and the After School Program site managers were trained on the Skillastics program. Skillastics is a research-based physical activity system that combines active, academic, social, emotional, and cooperative learning with the development of fitness and or sport skill development. Each school received a Fitness Skillastics kit along with nutrition cards and each ASP received Character Counts Skillastics and Let’s Move Skillastics along with nutrition cards.

PEP grant recognizes students at Hartley Elementary
Elementary P.E. coordinator Jena Derzi presented new P.E. equipment to the Hartley students that served at the ground-breaking ceremony for the new athletic field on Anthony Road. Dr. Charles Flowers, PEP grant director, attended the ground breaking and was very impressed by the students' service.

District PE teachers participate in conference
On Jan. 25, 11 physical education teachers - Aaron Allen of Union, Trent Allen of Southfield, Randy Carr of Porter, Levert Chaney of Heritage, Cateah Collins of Weaver, James Harris of Weaver, Wayne Holleman of Union, Brad Lord of Springdale, Sherri Marks of Howard Middle, Bruce Mullen of Union and Glen Turner of Alex II - along with PEP grant coordinators Jena Derzi and Maxine Cherry traveled to Jekyll Island to attend the Share the Wealth Conference. This conference's mission is to bring the best presenters and programs to physical educators. Each session is designed to be relevant, hands-on and participatory. This year around 500 physical educators attended the 3 day conference.
