Eligibility Criteria

The New Hire:
  • must be in a full time, permanent teaching position or hard to fill position: SLP or psychologist, not a third-party contract teacher;
  • must start before September 1 for the referrer to qualify for first half of bonus;
  • must work until the end of the school year for the referrer to qualify for second half of bonus;
  • if start date is between September 1 and February 1, must work until end of year for referrer to be eligible for second half of bonus;
  • if start date is after February 1, referrer is not eligible for bonus
  • must not submit a resignation prior to their last contract day;
  • must list referrer’s legal first and last name on the application under “General Information” upon first submission;
  • must not be a current or former BCSD employee;
  • must not be a current or former intern, substitute working or service agreement worker.

The Referrer:

  • cannot be a district or school leader including the following: Assistant Superintendent, Principal, AP, Dean, Director, Executive Officer, Coordinator;
  • cannot be a HR department staff member;
  • must be an active BCSD employee working full time or part time (20 or more hours per week); not service agreement, substitute, intern, student teacher.

Bonus Distribution:

  • $500 paid out when referred teacher/SLP/counselor completes first semester (January);
  • $500 paid out when referred teacher/SLP/counselor completes the school year (June);
  • Human Resources must approve payment for all referrals.
