Magnet School Applications

The online application process for the Bibb County School District’s magnet schools and programs for the 2024-2025 school closed on December 5, 2023, for Alexander II Math & Science Magnet School; Burdell-Hunt Communications Magnet School; Dr. John H. Heard Elementary School, Academic Magnet; Vineville Academy of the Arts; Miller Fine Arts Magnet Middle School; and Central Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate Magnet High School. 

Elementary and middle school applicants will be placed in a lottery, with parents being notified of a student’s status in mid-January. From there, students of all grade levels will participate in the required interview or audition, with parents receiving final acceptance notification by February 19, 2024. Magnet applications are for students entering kindergarten and older grades, with Pre-K applications being handled through a separate process

If your child is currently enrolled in any magnet school, they must apply and be accepted through the selection process in order to attend any other magnet school. If your child is currently enrolled in any Pre-K program, they must apply and be accepted in order to attend any magnet school for kindergarten. 

School bus transportation, as accessed through shuttle bus stops, will be available for students who apply and are accepted to attend Burdell-Hunt Communications Magnet School, Miller Fine Arts Magnet Middle School, and Central Fine Arts & International Baccalaureate Magnet High School. Transportation is not provided for students who are selected to attend other magnet schools outside the zone assigned to their place of residence. It is the hope of the Bibb County School District to provide school bus transportation in the future for students accepted through the selection process to attend other magnet schools.  

Students wait-listed at the elementary and middle magnet schools will automatically be placed on a waiting list and contacted if slots become available.

Required interviews and auditions for consideration of acceptance at any magnet school will take place according to schedules as identified by the schools from January 26-February 10, 2024.  A parent/guardian of each magnet school applicant will be notified regarding their child’s lottery/interview status by January 20, 2024.  The last day for parents to notify a magnet school of acceptance of a slot based on the successful results of an interview and/or audition/essay is February 26, 2024.  For questions about magnet school applications or if you need access to an application, please do not hesitate to contact the Department of Fine Arts & Magnet Programs at (478) 765-8595.  Each elementary and middle magnet school will also be open each day school is in session between November 7, 2023 and December 5, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 2:45 PM for any parent/guardian needing assistance or access to a computer to complete the online application.  You may also call Central at (478) 779-2300 for an appointment for assistance or access to a computer.
