Art of Reading Competition 2019

The Competition
The local library Board of Directors is calling for PreK-12th grade students in the Bibb County School District to create works of art inspired by books. These artworks will be judged by local artists and art educators. Artists love to read because reading stimulates the brain and helps to jumpstart the creative process. When we read, we often create pictures in our mind’s eye. We see the story in our heads. Each selected piece of art and the book that inspired it will be displayed in one of the branches of the library. Every effort will be made to provide an appropriate display of the work and to keep the work safe and out of harm’s way. However, the library cannot be responsible for damages that may occur while the work is in our possession.
Local Artists and Art Educators
The art that will be displayed will be selected by qualified judges on the basis of the quality of the work as well as the apparent inspiration from the book. All entries must be deemed appropriate for public display. We reserve the right to make no selection. Date and location of the display of the selected artwork will be determined by the Library Board of Trustees.
We want to feature each student artist along with the art and the book that inspired it in the local newspaper. This will highlight our local talent, our local schools, our libraries, and our local business sponsors. There will be public recognition and photo opportunities for the winners.

All entries must be delivered flat and ready for a 12 X 18 glassed frame to the Washington Memorial Library, 1180 Washington Ave. by April 8, 2019 during regular operating hours. Be sure your entry form is securely attached to the back of your work.
