Teacher Appreciation Week 5/7/19

Happy May! Time has flown by and now we are winding down the school year for 2019.

For some of you it has been a great year. You have been able to create and sustain new relationships with students, parents, teachers and co-workers. It has truly been a great year for you. For others, it has been a little more difficult. You may have found it a little harder to reach that one student, that one co-worker or that one parent, but you kept trying.

I want to thank all of you for the work you have done this year. Please know the Board of Education and the Bibb County School District are so appreciative of the work you do each day. As I look through the Georgia Milestones preliminary test scores that have been rolling in, I can see the effort that you have put in. Overall, I am pleased. I hope you will be, too, as you consider the results. You know how hard you worked, you know what you put into it, and we are very appreciative of it, so thank you again.

Words are easy, so I’m going to share some with you. Thank you for continuing to wear the Bibb County School District loyalty pin and the Bibb VIP pin. Both pins give you the opportunity to say you are a proud member of our school district. As I reviewed the work this year, and as the Board and I reviewed our district’s financial situation, we recognized that we had an opportunity to thank you in another way – a way that is more than words. Last year you will remember that we gave a performance bonus. We tracked attendance and behavior, we tracked grades and we looked at our non-negotiables of Formative Instructional Practices, RtI, Leader Keys and Teacher Keys and PBIS. We tracked each of these on a monthly basis and we reported out that if we did well you would be able to receive a bonus. It was a bonus for all of us because all of us are in this together. That was a one-time opportunity; we did not put a bonus in this year’s budget.

As the Board and I reviewed the district’s financial situation, we saw that once again we had that opportunity. I want to thank the Board of Education, I want to thank principals, and I want to thank you for being efficient with our taxpayer dollars and for being great members of the Bibb County School District. This is Teacher Appreciation Week and today is Teacher Appreciation Day. I hope the bonus you are receiving this week is accepted in the spirit with which it is offered, and that is one meant to convey thanks and gratitude. So, enjoy and recognize the Board of Education and Bibb County School District appreciate you greatly.

Thank you! VIP continues!
