All About Lexiles
Lexile Ranges are a measuring system to help readers select books which are challenging and interesting for them to read. The Lexile Range is not set by the grade level of the student. Your student's Lexile range comes from tests your student has taken. These tests measure their vocabulary, comprehension and other reading skills.
Most of the books in our Media Center's collection has a Lexile range on the spine or inside the book. Others may be found by going to Lexile.com or asking Mrs. Duke, the media specialist. These ranges are not on the book to limit the student's reading choices; students may read books below or above their personal range. However, like a muscle, reading skills should be frequently exercised for the reader to improve and grow.
